Destress and Reduce Symptoms

Relaxing, de-stressing and finding an inner peace is so crucial not only for your overall well-being but also for your skin. Although stress might not be the cause of a skin condition (e.g. acne, eczema and dandruff), it can definitely intensify the symptoms and make it difficult for treatment to work. Below we outline how stress interacts with the three skin conditions we focus on here at Kamedis:

STRESS & ACNE

Stress doesn’t directly cause acne but it definitely can contribute to making it difficult to get rid of and can even make it worse. Stress (specifically chronic stress) throws our adrenal glands into overdrive which stimulates the production of more sebum oil. Which as we know, overproduction of sebum oil is what leads to increased breakouts. This is why it’s important to use a product that balances sebum production and very important to manage our stress. Whether it means lightening our load of activities, taking 20 minutes to go for a walk or reading a book, it’s important to find that release.

STRESS & ECZEMA

As if eczema wasn’t hard enough, stress can intensify that pain and discomfort. Unfortunately it’s not difficult to get caught in a vicious cycle of stress – flare up – more stress – more intense flare up – even more stress and so on… It’s definitely easier said than done but it’s prudent for those suffering from eczema not to let their stress intensify their flare-ups. Try to clear your mind and free it of stress that will direct your attention to your itchy and irritated skin. Sometimes even the best skincare solution isn’t enough to solve your painful symptoms and your strength and willpower is also needed for full treatment!

STRESS & DANDRUFF

Again, stress doesn’t directly cause dandruff, yet the properties of stress can aggravate a dandruff problem and lead to more flaking, more irritation and more itching. For example, stress can sometimes cause overheating and sweating which is where Malassezia (the microbe that causes dandruff) thrives and thus promotes more intense dandruff symptoms. So like the other skin conditions, finding a way to reduce stress is important on your journey to getting satisfying treatment.
